Planned obsolescence

What is Planned obsolescence ?

When companies have a strategy to kill their products over period of time so that the consumers will buy the product again.

Wikipedia link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planned_obsolescence

 CASE 1:

I was unable to fix the Wifi issue of WD My Passport Wireless - 1TB even after resetting by holding wps and power button as instructed by the WD forum and phone support.

I am only able to connect through USB to my Mac/PC post update. I have already backed up my content.

This problem started after I tried to reset my password. I later on tried updating with the latest firmware from WD support page via SD card.

It's now only showing two flashing red blinking.

There has been no rough usage of hard drive. I have been using it to playback movies and music via my cloud.

Normally it should rollback.

This is the proof that the hard drive is working perfectly but WiFi can be fixed but it has been made impossible to fix via firmware through usb.

CASE 2:

My Sony Smart band SWR10 strap got torn and I was unable to secure the strap so I had to buy a FitBit.

I contacted Sony India via twitter. They said go to the nearest service center which I had already visited. Who said they don't have the parts.

Even mobile phone companies take up space by offering new updates to the consumers but it does make it slow as it takes up enough space to make one buy a new mobile phone or same goes with computers and printer cartridges and the drivers.

Valid ATVM Smart card not working in Mumbai

To whomever it may concern,

I want to report ATVM smart card issue in Mumbai suburban railway network.

It seems most of us are new to ATVM machines in Mumbai after coupons where discontinued. But we as Mumbaikars find others in need and help them out whenever we see some one struggle with the new ATVM machine.

I myself believe that I am a tech savvy person and has mastered the technology of buying tickets from the ATVM machines. But on 31st May,2015 my smart card stopped working at ATVM kiosk at Kandivali east station ticket office around 17:30 Hrs.

I tried my luck on all machine. Lucky for me one of the machines gave out the automated ticket print but as I went to Grant road station to check balance on the ATVM kiosk my card didn't even validate.

So I went to the ticket counter where I was charged Rs.15/- for duplicate smart cards still it didn't work even after follow up with the same person who changed my card. My complains have gone in thin air. I even tried at Kandivali station ticket counter to resolve the issue the next day on 1st June, 2015 around 10:00 am but the issue was not resolved. The operator said it was all good from his side but you can buy a new card.

It appears that my balance are visible but only on the ticket operators machine and everything things seems OK but it rejects when I try to avail ticket at the ATVM machine from my smart card. I have also seen others facing the same issue.

Please provide a solution.

02-06-2015 - Update
I went to Kandivali - East ticket window. A very senior ticket sales executive did something to the ATVM smart card and said it will get reactivated after 24 hours. Right now my ATVM is temporarily disabled.

04-06-2015 - Update
My ATVM smart card was changed by railway ticketing staff at Kandivali station booking office at no extra cost so now its working fine on 03-06-2015 onwards.

Observations as told by one railway employee:
Don't bend your smart card as the chip inside the smart card breaks.
Don not keep it at your back pocket or wallet.
Have patience and don't rush by pulling the card while using ATVM.
