Bhuvan

Bhuvan, (Sanskrit: भुवन Hindi: भुवन, lit: Earth), is a satellite mapping tool similar to Google Earth and Wikimapia. It was developed by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It offers resolution up to 5 metres and is considered as a rival to Google Earth and Wikimapia.
A prototype (beta) of this application was launched on 12th August 2009.

Basic features of Bhuvan:
  • Access, explore and visualise 2D and 3D image data along with rich thematic information on Soil, wasteland, water resources etc.
  • Visualise multi-resolution, multi-sensor, multi-temporal image data
  • Superpose administrative boundaries of choice on images as required
  • Visualisation of AWS ( Automatic Weather Stations) data/information in a graphic view and use tabular weather data of user choice
  • Fly to locations ( Flies from the current location directly to the selected location)
  • Heads-Up Display ( HUD) naviation controls ( Tilt slider, north indicator, opacity, compass ring, zoom slider)
  • Navigation using the 3D view Pop-up menu (Fly-in, Fly out, jump in, jump around, view point)
  • 3D Fly through (3D view to fly to locations, objects in the terrain, and navigate freely using the mouse or keyboard)
  • Drawing 2D objects (Text labels, polylines, polygons, rectangles, 2D arrows, circles, ellipse)
  • Drawing 3D Objects (placing of expressive 3D models, 3D polygons, boxes)
  • Snapshot creation (copies the 3D view to a floating window and allows to save to a external file)
  • Measurement tools (Horizontal distance, aerial distance, vertical distance, measure area)
  • Shadow Analysis (it sets the sun position based on the given time creating shadows and effects the lighting on the terrain)
  • Urban Design Tools (to build roads, junctions and traffic lights in an urban setting)
  • Contour map ( Displays a colorized terrain map and contour lines)
  • Draw tools (Creates simples markers, free hand lines, urban designs)
There would be many more value added functions and facilities which will be added into the package from time to time. Particular interest of ISRO/DOS would be to provide such functionalities to common man so that he/she adopts participatory approach with scientists to solve simple problems easily and interactively.

The Viral Internet Video United Breaks Guitars

***

Dave shares some thoughts after the success of United Breaks Guitars.

In the spring of 2008, Sons of Maxwell were traveling to Nebraska for a one-week tour and my Taylor guitar was witnessed being thrown by United Airlines baggage handlers in Chicago. I discovered later that the $3500 guitar was severely damaged. They didn’t deny the experience occurred but for nine months the various people I communicated with put the responsibility for dealing with the damage on everyone other than themselves and finally said they would do nothing to compensate me for my loss. So I promised the last person to finally say “no” to compensation (Ms. Irlweg) that I would write and produce three songs about my experience with United Airlines and make videos for each to be viewed online by anyone in the world. United: Song 1 is the first of those songs. United: Song 2 has been written and video production is underway. United: Song 3 is coming. I promise.

My Review for Mozilla Firefox 3.5

I had previously downloaded Mozilla Firefox 3.5 Beta version before the official launch and recommended Firefox via "Report broken Website..." in the Help menu of Firefox about some bugs and errors, etc. but the problems stills remains.

This is the review that I want to share with you guys about the things I liked in firefox and the things I didn't like.

+ (PLUS) Points

1] Firefox 3.5 is faster than its old versions

2] It has a new add new tab button with [+] sign to create new tabs so don't have to go to file menu or right click to create new tabs.

3] The ability to share your location with websites using "Location Aware Browsing".

4] Support for new web technologies such as: download able fonts, CSS media queries, new transformations and properties, JavaScript query selectors, HTML5 local storage and offline application storage, text, ICC profiles, and SVG transforms.

5] I like the new private browsing feature.

Now the [-] (MINUS) Points

1] Some of the add-on’s are not compatible with fire fox 3.5 so we have to wait for the new versions of particular software's like Real player and others for the patches to integrate with fire fox.

2] I don't know why there are two similar sub menus of "Recently closed Tabs" in History menu.

3] There are still some issues with fonts as Firefox still does not support some fonts.

4] The firefox does not display text [description] on images when the mouse is hovered on the image like internet explorer.

5] When I go to any website the Firefox saves cookies on pc that's ok but if I come back to same web page which refreshes after sometime which updates itself every few seconds or minutes. I always have to click on reload button but this not the problem I have to hit on reload [Refresh] multiple times to access the updated page.

There is a similar problem with the stop button "Stop Loading Page".
When I click on “Stop loading this page” Icon the links stops loading the web page so again I have to reload button to refresh the page to make the link work again.
So Why I am Complaining its because I want stop the web page from loading but I don't want to refresh the web page again to make the link working.
